You Do Not Need a Perfect Plan to Start

A perfect plan can feel safe. It promises that if we think everything through carefully enough, we will avoid mistakes and wasted effort.

But waiting for a perfect plan can also delay action, sometimes for a long time. There is always another detail to consider, another scenario to prepare for, another reason to wait.

In coaching, it is often more useful to begin with a workable plan than to wait for total certainty. A workable plan is clear enough to start and flexible enough to change.

You learn more once the plan touches reality. What felt obvious on paper may need adjusting in the real week you are living. Some steps will be easier than expected, and others will take longer. You only discover that by starting.

Starting before you feel fully ready does not mean being careless. It means giving yourself room to learn. You can still think ahead, prepare what you need, and consider the risks. You just do not let the search for certainty stop you from moving.

A helpful coaching question is, What is the smallest version of this plan I could start this week? Another is, What would I need to learn by trying that I cannot learn by planning?

Progress often comes from a first draft, not a final answer. Begin with what you know, and let the plan improve as you go.
